Fenland Grass Track Club
Fenland Trophy Meeting - Sunday 14th September 2008
Oldhurst Road, Woodhurst, Nr Huntingdon, Cambs,
Postcode PE28 3BQ
Contact Gary Southgate @: cambsgtc@btinternet.com
For many years motorcycle Grass track racing
was common on many weekends throughout the summer in the
Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire areas.
In recent times the sport has dwindled in the
area but with the formation of the Fenland Grass Track Club (FGTC)
in 2006 this changed. The club has run four successful events
but has had to use venues in Norfolk or near the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk
border. The FGTC has managed to secure the use of an excellent
venue near RAF Wyton just outside Huntingdon, which means the
return of the sport to the Huntingdonshire area. The venue, a
large grass meadow, provides the club the opportunity to run
several different tracks on the 30 plus acre field. Thanks must
go to the Landowner, Andy Johnson from Oldhurst, for allowing
the use of the field.
Unfortunately the clubs event in June was cancelled
due to the heavy rain, but despite the heavy losses made, the
club is still encouraged to carry on and continuing the theme
from the clubs earlier meetings in Wisbech in 2006 & 2007.
The
club will be running the Fenland Trophy Meeting on Sunday 14th
September 2008. This will be a meeting for 250cc, 350cc, 500cc
Upright & Pre75 solos and all three sidecar classes for adults
with all youth classes and quads.
With the meeting being the
final round for both the ACU Eastern Centre and ACU South Midland
Centre championships a top class entry is expected.
The meeting will be the first round of the JRM
250cc Challenge series as well as the Speedway Services Ltd 350cc & 500cc
solos series.
The youth riders will be riding in the NORCAM
youth series first round.
The first prize of a brand new 250cc JRM engine
for the winner of the JRM 250cc Challenge series is sure to attract
a quality entry. Practice will be at 11.00 with the first race
off at 12.30, there will be a beer tent on site and refreshments
will be available all day. There is limited water on site and
camping will be available from the Saturday morning.
For regs please contact Juliet Collins on 01473720466
or 07745268885 or email cambsgtc@btinternet.com.
The regs will also be available on the clubs website at www.fgtc.co..uk
and we will post further information on there as well.
